What does Protools LE does 32 tracks really mean?

In the cases where people are having problems, are you using virtual instruments on any of the aux tracks concerned? RTAS virtual instruments use a voice on the TDM systems and I'm assuming the same is true for the LE systems.

Please start by trashing preferences and database files.

If that doesn't clear up the problem, create a new session at the same bit depth and sample rate, then use 'Import Session Data' to import all the tracks from the problematic sessions. It appears, from the info in your posts, that this could be session corruption, as new sessions don't exhibit the problem.

Thanks for your note.
That is exactly what I was suspecting and am trying to find out/confirm for sure. Nowhere in the documentation does it say that aux with a virtual instrument on it counts as a voice (or two if it is stereo)... and therefore reduces the maximum count of audio tracks in session... but it sure seems like it.
Digi, can you, please give us a definitive answer on this?
I would appreciate the clarity: whichever way this goes.

Yes, I trashed the preferences and databases etc. but that did not solve the problem. I will try your suggestion to import session data to a new session.

Meanwhile, can you please answer these two questions:
1. Does an aux track that has a virtual instrument on it count as a voice (or voices)?
2. Does an aux track that has an FX plugin on it to which audio is sent via sends from other tracks count as a voice (or voices)?

The questions are regarding PT LE.

Only Audio tracks count toward the 32 voice limit. Aux tracks, no matter what they have on them, do not count.

Now that it is clear that my sessions are "corrupt" is there anything I should pay attention to in order to avoid this problem in the future? What could have caused this corruption?
