Default PCie Accel? what? Why?

If the new PCie cards are Accel cores...then why are they the same price as the standard PCI core coards that arent Accel?

they being those that want you to run pro tools on the best platform you can.

maybe they dont have many non accel cores left and want tio promote the ones they are currently manufacturing and hoping that people will shy away from the non accel cores.

"They" are still manufacturing both. There is no Windows compatibility for PCIe right now, so PCI is the current format, Also the Expansion|HD Chassis only accepts PCI cards.

Actually the PCI Accel Cards are more powerful than the PCIe Accel cards. Digidesign made the Core Card Accel to even out power with the PCI systems.

You can read all about it here .

Sooooooo looking at the chart... the PCIe cards seem to be identical... so in an HD2 system, does that mean I could actually have 2 HD1 systems ? ?

Yes and no. Yes, PCI Accel cards are more powerful than PCIe Accel cards, but on the other hand PCIe Accel Core cards are more powerful than PCI Core cards; the real reason for Accel Core is that Accel-only plugins can be instantiated on a new HD1 system. The downside is that systems with a lot of cards are less powerful as PCIe version than the older PCI, but the upside is that systems with few cards are more powerful and more capable due to Accel chips.

Maybe this current PCIe generation card is an intermediate step anyway.

It's a bug in a hardware test software. The cards should be fine (Core+Accel), so no, it's not going to work as two separate systems.
