Default Newer computers versus 2012 MP's

So I am struggling with my hackintosh trying to upgrade to 10.12 and I must be getting old b/c I'm acting debating purchasing a 2012 12core machine.

I want to know how those machines are running for you guys that have them. I rarely lack CPU horsepower and I run a first gen Xeon E5-2687W. The v2's are what's in the 2013 nMP's. I'm happy with this combo but I am in pains presently with my hack.

I've wrote off the possibility of the 2013's b/c I don't want to accessorize with my cards.....i.e. Purchase external hardware to house my pcie cards (uad and avid specifically)

How are these 2010/2012 12 core machines running?

I much prefer to use a separate computer for all my non-audio work(and I doubt the Photoshop would be an issue as long as you're not working Pro Tools and PS at the same time) Food for thought

Sad to see you jump ship, Daniel.
What issues did you run into? I haven't bothered trying to get my rig up to 10.12, yet. But I've been on the Hackintosh train since 10.8, and so far the upgrades at one point always were doable without causing headaches.

I just ordered a 2012 12 core which arrived this afternoon. I will report back once I've got it up and running. Bought it on line for 1700 Canadian

Cool b pls let us know

Meads my man.......well tonymac went another route with a clover installer....I just don't understand......how they are going about it now. Since my X79 is older there isn't any guides specifically for that chipset yet....

I am hopeful there will be, and I am hopeful b/c the core audio fix is reportedly working on 10.10.5. I can ride it out here for some time if that is the case.

But with users reporting good behavior in 10.12 I was excited to jump.

Yeah 10.8 was my first hack as well.....

Hello,

We have a bunch of the 2012 MPs from quad-cores to dual six-cores. Some are dual-Madi systems with a usb3+esata card and some are triple-Madi systems. We've been augmenting with 2013 MPs and Sonnet chassis' but our anticipated need to replace the old ones has not been necessary yet.

They work very well, no horsepower issues, our only issues are disk access playing 192 audio tracks with spinning drives unless we cache the sessions which is frequently not possible due to fast turnaround. The OS/apps drives have long been SSDs, we're moving to SSDs for the media drives as well with scheduled SSD reconditioning.

Highly recommended and hard to beat the price. Since our systems are used in production environments with sometimes less than stellar operators we have stayed away from the hackintosh route for ease of use.

Hugh

Well I pulled the new mac pro out of the box. Because of the similarity between my old machine and the new I simply transferred the old drives to the new( the sleds are not the same) and fired it up. Much slower to boot. Launching PT It all went smooth except Waves which I was expecting as it is a machine based authorizaion

Took a session which was simple but none the less has OZONE 5 Advanced strapped across the Master buss. For fun, I tried to run it at lower sample rates. Imagine my surprise when I could run the session at 32 samples WITH Ozone Advanced working hard and the overall CPU at a lazy and stable 15%.

Even moving to IRC III at 32 samples--a deal killer on my old machine still only hit 25%.

Word is an SSD will make things even snappier.

The build quality on these pre trash can boxes is obvious. Heavy, big, Yes. Powerful, affordable, tweak able Yes.

So far 1700 bucks well spent
