Default 002R will it run 32bit 7.4 and 64bit 8.0.4 both. TS?

Hi, is there any firmware update that prevents the 002r from being used on a dual boot system (windows) if we step up to W-7 and 64 bit 8.0.4cs?

I have to be 7.4 compatible but would like to try out the improved time stretching and midi. Is is possible to use dual boot XP & W-7 (separate disks and drivers) will this work on the 002 rack?

Is there a cryptic key combo to restore flash from eprom in case of a buggy firmware update? If it is humanly possible will AVID provide a small app that can downgrade or upgrade firmware for dual booters?

Opcode many years ago took the block off lower versions opening higher versions. But when Gibson bought them they were forced to implement this block to force an upgrade to buggy 4.5 against seasoned advice, and almost everyone downgraded immediately to 4.2. Please learn from the past or we are condemned to repeat it.

The only solution for a hard reset, for example my buggy MOTU microexpress, is to remove the battery. Their ts suggested to hold panic button while unplugged doesn't do a hard reset. You need a screw driver (void warranty naturally). Battery removal does the trick.

But how to dual boot, or upgrade or downgrade firmware for 32 or 64 bit with Pro Tools interfaces, if that becomes neccessary?

I say, only if it becomes neccessary.

I hope tech support will respond. These units are long passed warranty. But if there may be a problem, I would opt for compatible (7.4) over features. But really they should be able to run both?

I am more than a little surprised by lack of response by TS. Also you are out of stock on knobs, as well as 7.4 disks. Any news on remedying this stock problem?

Firmware versions are backwards compatible. So if you update to 8.x, you can still use it on a 7.x system. At worst you'll be asked to revert the firmware to the 7.x version when connected to that system - you can either do so, or just cancel.

See above.

We've seen no indication of any firmware bugginess at any point.

Lack of response where? When? Did you read the Help Us Help You sticky - the one linked from the top of every DUC page, as well as my signature, especially this part?:

First, keep in mind that this is the USER Conference - meaning it's mostly other Pro Tools users that will be answering your questions. While Avid Tech Support maintains a presence here, with the hundreds of posts per day here on the DUC, we are unable to chime in on every one. We maintain limited hours of operation here, so many posts are bound to happen when we are not available. If you absolutely need a reply from Avid Tech Support directly, please use the Contact Avid Support over the web link under Assisted Support.

Thank you. A lot of work into getting those quotes. But I do appreciate the one question answered. Actually a lot.

All companies have a buggy firmware update now and then. Just look at Seagate vs 11 hard drives? You'd think with all their expertise and collective wisdom it just happens. So please don't take offense.

I posted in two sections last week. I figured nobody had both running at once.

Another apparently stupid question still not answered.

I mention Opcode. The block they removed (all the pros used your hardware and their software or DP's software for a long time while the radio producers used Sound Designer II). This may be news to some of the new people with AVID.

Will 7.3 open a 7.4 session? This is the block Opcode removed early on by virtue of a zillion requests that came into them from the Pro Users as not everyone was working on the same version.
