Default Converting to Protools

Hey,
I am interested in converting from cubase to protools. I am however having a few problems with PT that I am wondering if I have something set wrong.

When I hit play, tracks play immediately, however if I put tracks into record, it takes about 5 seconds before PT starts. I don't have count off enabled.

Also when recording it takes a long time to draw the files, maybe two seconds behind actual recording, then when I stop all the files disappear for about 4 seconds and then appear on screen. With cubase it flows instantly at 24 tracks in record, with pt it glitches with just 1 track in record.

I realize I am not using HD or AVID hardware yet, but it would be nice to evaluate the program a bit before I make the plunge.

I am running WIN 7 - 64 bit with an I-7 first generation with 16 gb of RAM

Lynx AES-16E 50 PCIe soundcard.

Thanks for your input!
Richard

We really need a Sandra report on your system, and a list of system tweaks you did(or didn't do) and what you have tried so far(in the way of troubleshooting) Also, check for Pre-roll(probably NOT the issue, but you need to learn about it anyway)

Sounds like Midi countoff could be enabled.
Click the arrow on the top right corner of the Edit window and show extended midi controls.
Make sure midi countoff checkbox is not checked.

Also make sure you perform all of the optimisations relevant to your system from the links at the top of this window if you haven't done so already...

Default Re: Converting to Protools

The Sandra report hints at a possible issue or two. I see 16GB of RAM(4x4BG) installed, but the report is only showing 8GB of total memory Something going on there. I see the BIOS is showing 2009, which is quite old(maybe a BIOS update would help the RAM setup??). Lastly(sorry that none of this is likely the starting issue) the X58 motherboards(I had the UD3 version of yours prior to my current X58A setup) are designed to use triple-channel RAM. That requires 3(or 6) MATCHED sticks of RAM for the best performance. Just an opinion here, but I would experiment with 3 sticks(in the proper 3 slots) and manual config of RAM settings(these Gigabyte mobos tend to run like crap with the AUTO settings) Hope you get it sorted
