Crossgrade question

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum as far as posting.

I have Pro Tools M-Powered 8. I know the crossgrade is not available from AVID now, but if I were able to find a cross grade to a newer version would it work in order to activate?
If not I will buy a perpetual license.
