Default TDM Aggregate workaround?

Hey, so I have a Apogee Symphony that has 16 analog IO, running with Accel cards using TDM. On the unit itself is one Spdif IO. I have 1 FX unit connected to it.

I would like to connect another unit but there is no more digital IO.

I'm in a tight spot with money now and can't buy another Symphony module that has more digital IO.

Can I get a 192 with digital IO and hook it up to my system so I can use this TC Electronic effect unit via digital IO?

You sure can. (And I would avoid the word "aggregate" which sounds like CoreAudio aggregate IO which has nothing to do with how TDM/Digilink interfaces join, err aggregate, together )

Ah that's wonderful news, would you be so kind to instruct me on how to connect a 192 to a Symphony that is already connected to an HD Core?

Would the 192 be connected via digilink to the 2nd accel card?

Just connect it up to any card with a free Digilink connector. Or connect to the "Through" Digilink connection on your Symphony. (each Digilink connection can carry 32x32 IO, like an Avid HD IO the Symphony only uses half that)

Play with Setup>Hardware and Setup>IO to make sure everything shows up OK and looks correct.

*If* things don't work OK just connect the 192 by itself to the known good Digilink port using your known good cable and see if you can get that to run, and run Digitest to test it.

Ah I have to get a Sync IO too? Is there perhaps any PDF to show me how to connect it in my particular setup? I've been reading and getting confused with word clock cables, digilink cable adapter, and how it goes into play with the Symphony.

No.

Take a look at the back of the interface. There are two sets of clocking connectors. You need to connect Loop Sync between interfaces, and the ext.clock is for what it says -- external reverbs and such, whatever digital boxes you connect to your system.

Ah yes thanks, forgot loop sync.

Esppse: The Digidesign 192 User Guide (PDF online) and your Symphony documentation will tell you all you need to know about connecting Loop sync. Loop sync is needed for operation of multiple TDM/Digilink boxes.
