Default How to control Soundtoys parameters via MIDI?

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to use an expression pedal connected via MIDI to control the Feedback in EchoBoy, so i can write automation of this parameter while recording. SoundToys plugins don't support right-clicking to map controls (as, e.g., the Waves H-Delay does). Is there any way built in to PT to map incoming MIDI CCs to a given automation parameter?

FYI my expression pedal is connected through a MorningStar MC6, which is set up as a MIDI Input Device in PT.

Thanks!

If you pick up a Eucon control surface this becomes trivial. Try the used market if the current offerings are out of budget.

ha, thanks for the suggestion... that's a bit more "heavyweight" than i was hoping to go. I can already record the expression pedal data into a MIDI Track, but I can't figure out how to route that to the automation lane of a plugin in realtime. Surely there's a way, without needing extra equipment, yes?

I've tried setting the output of the MIDI track to the various EchoBoy channels in the output selector, but none do anything.

(Of course, i can copy-paste the automation data from the MIDI track to the relevant automation lane after the fact, but that doesn't give me the ability to "perform" the automation as i'm tracking.)

Hi!

it only works if you have a MIDI controller enabled in the Peripherals/MIDI Controllers dialog. Then in the plugin windows you will find MIDI mapping options in the top area of the plugin window.

Thanks for the response! but I'm not finding any midi mapping options in the top of the plugin window. There are automation options, but i don't see any way to link those to a midi controller. I'm probably just being an idiot, but can you help me understand how this should work?

I don’t believe Soundtoys plugins support MIDI learn.

Not at the studio, but can check for you when I am there later today.

The mapping options appear when you setup a Midi controller in the Peropherals Dialog in Pro Tools
Then you can midi learn all automateable parameters.

Yes, but only if the plugin in question supports MIDI learn within PT. I don’t believe Soundtoys does.

Yeah, from memory they don’t.

I use Eucon to control them, so it’s been a while since I tried MIDI, but IIRC, they don’t work via MIDI in PT.
