Default Good Deals On control Surfaces

I have always loved control surfaces. Even if they are just a "really big mouse" id rather work on a control surface than be clicking around on a screen. What are some good ones under a thousand? (or is that just impossible). Any experience with them? 8 Faders is alright, although id prefer an option to buy an expansion module. I understand the Mackie HUI does this, but i cant find it anywhere :3

Thanks

PS: sorry i didn't post this in the control surface section, i didn't find a generic control surface discussion board, they all seemed pretty specific to individual products ;P

real HUIs are long gone

A used Pro Control main section might be good for you

Euphonix Artist line in the future when EuCon get implemented but probably over a grand

Is there somethign about Euphonix stuff that makes them worth their price? Fader for Dader, they are WAY more expensive than alot of other control surfaces. and actually contain less buttons to perform tasks.

Avid bought them last spring and the EuCon protocol is going to be incorporated into Pro Tools at some point down the line.

Anything on the HUI protocol (how Euphonix EuCon currently works) is 8 bit MIDI.
HUI protocol is what 12 years old or so.

They are about as future proof as posable once Pro Tools is EuCon native.

A Pro Control main is a bit of a gamble. Support could be dropped in the future but it works. Again the PC is old tech about 10 years if my memory is correct.

I wouldn't say the control surface is a "Big Mouse". It is a tactile experience that lets you do your job more efficiently. A Control surface complements a mouse when working with a DAW.

A good control surface is definitely more than a mouse.

A bad control surface is just mickey mouse.

The pro control is a very nice control surface, it has a lot more pro tools specific functionality than anything else on the used market thats in it's price range, but it is kind of a gamble when they pull the plug on supporting it since it's been discontinued for so long(I think at least 6 years).

They're mostly wrong. A big mouse would be, well, a big mouse. The correct term is "input device". A control surface gives you the controls that resembles their traditional counterparts.
