Default use of pre amps

Let's say you're recording a vocal and you have, say, a good avalon pre you want to use.

As a general rule, would you not want to send that through another pre? In other words, putting it into the analog inputs on the digi instead of 1 and 2 with the pres. What happens when a signal goes through 2 pre amps?

thanks

jason

Jason,
That is correct, you want to go from the preamp into the line inputs on the back of Digi for the cleanest signal, or from the preamp into a high quality outboard A/D converter, then into Digi lightpipe or SPDIF.

If you want a kick butt signal chain into PTLE, here is one:

Avalon - Cranesong HEDD 192 ADA-(SPDIF out)-Digi001 (SPDIF in). That should get you better audio quality than almost anything out there right now.

Good luck.

Hey Allen

Did You check out the Crane Song ? I red a few screaming reviews about it, but I didn't have the chance to audition one yet; is it so "rich sounding" as they say, while being a really good AD?

Well LG,
I had one delivered to my door about 4 hours ago. I'm just staring at it right now. Unfortunately, I'll be out of the studio for an entire week and won't be able to listen to it until next weekend. I'm trying to convince a big studio to do a shootout with the new PTHD 96k, and 192K converters. Unfortunately the PTHD converters require PTHD software and can't be used as stand alone converters, and we would have to go through the legacy ports on the PTHD units with the HEDD 192 at 24bit/48K. So for a fair comparison we would have to set all converters to 24bit/48K. I'll let you know how it goes.
