hey allen i got a dell inspiron 1150 laptop.i jumped the ram up and installed the ptle on it awhile ago when i first bought it. it was actually workin but when i tried to record it froze. i realized the laptop was runnin a celeron chip so i automatically knew that was the reason. if i get an amd or p3 or p4 chip should i run w/ the laptop since im having probs w/ my desktop. and if so which chip should i get.
Get the EMachines 6811 laptop while the supply is still around. Best thing going for PTLE right now at around 1k.

Ok just configured my new M6811 I recently bought off of saveateagle.com on the advice of many posters on the DUC (very special thanks to Allen H!!!)

DaveC, drum roll please...

32+20 @ 512 (32+17 @ 256) - very pleased, coming from a HP pavilion ZD7020 this is a vast improvement. Plus the m6811 doesnt heat up like the engine in a 52 chevy. It stays nice and cool - fan gets going but not like on the pavilion.

my config: PTLE 6.7, Digi 002R, M6811 512k ram, 7200 rpm internal HD, XP Home SP1, all bundled (crap) software uninstalled, all recommended tweaks as per PT manual and www.musicxp.net.

anyone have any comments whether I could achieve better results if I'd installed XP using Standard PC versus ACPI where I think I would have more flexibility on IRQ settings???

Also, I think if I max out RAM at 1.2mg I'd see improvement on overall speed within PTLE, but I dont see a need for that with what i want to do at this point (I plan to use for full band recording - 7 tracks of drums + 1 scratch track - then add guitars, vox, bass and overdubs afterwards).

I havent installed EQ III yet, I've heard it might cause some system slowdown, if I see a change after I install it I'll re-post my results...

curious to hear other m6811 success stories as I'm sure a few of us picked up these machines given the recent low web sales prices...
With Standard PC you will probably be able to record below 512 but I'm not sure of the long term affects on your processor. I'd leave things alone unless you start running into errors.

Congrats on those results. That is right in the ballpark before overclocking. I've seen one guy overclock the Gateway version of this laptop and get 32+ 26 or around that.

People wake up! Get this laptop now!

Finally got around to checking this new laptop out. Yes, this is the same as the 3400+ model with the newer 3700+ processor. Great find again. Did someone say Davec 32+30? Remember this laptop will come with Win XP SP2 and will require the DEP fix before installing PTLE.
Forget about those pansy Intel processors and please stop posting dumb Intel questions folks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There should be no more reason to have problems finding laptops for PTLE.
Gateway 3700+ 1400.00 at Best Buy
E-Machines 6811 1040.00 at Yahoo Stores. Will require 1GB ram upgrade for 300.00.

Buy Buy Buy!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey smlamb, I was debating whether to go mobile or get a
desktop built, is this the Laptop you have?
http://store.yahoo.com/saveateaglest...6noat6434.html
Did they ship it with SP1 installed?
Is it possible to set up a second monitor to it? I am very interested in anyone
using this with an MBOX. what speed is the hard drive?

A fast mobile system for under 1300 would be a dream, hmm.... options
yep thats it, just tested out with second monitor and works like a champ. you will want to upgrade the harddrive as it comes with only a 4200 drive. drives run a few hundred, check the web for deals. or try here: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/ibtr60at7229.html. my results were from using the one internal 7200 drive for both system and audio - not recommended by digi but i've had no problems doing that.

suddenly this system now costs around $1500 when you add the Ram and HDupgrades, not to sure if I am willing to spend that much for a Laptop right now. Hmmm. not bad for the mobility, just not cost effective or upgradable. Must be nice to have though!

I dont know... I flogged the original 4200 harddrive on ebay for $100 and seem to surviving fine with the stock 512 memory for a net cost of only $1100.

What is the best small format laptop currently...14" or 12" screen on the PC platform ..mobile processor? I have a nice big laptop working great but I'm getting a little tired of lugging it through the airport....mostly for Hotel room use with an ext HD.
thanks

I have an SIS 648fx + 963 chipset on my P4 laptop and am considering getting into PTMP. Does anybody know if that will work? I have searched the DUC but have not found anything referring to that chipset.

Thanks,

Allen (not THE man)
