PTF still crashes
Hello, just a message to ask you when there will be an update of PTF 2019.6 as my new Dell 3793 laptop still crashes when PTF starts. It is due to the audio device instability.
I can read a lot of posts relating to this issue (AAX plugin, ASIO, etc), and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thank you |

Re: PTF still crashes
What audio device are you using? Is windows using it as the "default playback device"? If yes, change that so Windows uses the on-board sound card as that will allow Pro Tools to have complete control over your interface. If you have no interface, you might be able to run with ASIO4ALL, which is a free "universal" ASIO driver, but this is a last resort and using a separate interface is highly recommended

Re: PTF still crashes
2020.9 just released - I'm not sure if it addresses this issue - see the release notes: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=411730

Re: PTF still crashes
Thank you, good news this 2020.9 version.
Just installed it and... still crashes ! I'm using 3793 Dell bought in May 2020. Focusrite + Realtek audio (cannot uninstall it). Before I had an old i3 Asus laptop and PTF 2019.6 worked perfectly with Focusrite + Realtek. Today I have switched to another free DAW and it runs perfectly without installing other stuff like asio4all, etc. |

Re: PTF still crashes
So it seems your hardware change caused the crashes. Can you share the specs of the laptop?

Re: PTF still crashes
I'm using my new Dell Inspiron 3793 bought May 2020
Intel i7 1065G7 512 SSD PCIe NVMe. Realtek ALC3204 driver Apr 2020. Windows 10 1909 18363.900. PTF 2019.6 and 2020.9 both crash (with and without my Focusrite 3rd gen). PTF 2019.6 runs perfectly with my Asus i3 bought in 2012. Cakewalk runs perfectly on my new Dell Inspiron 3793. My guess is that there is something wrong in the Realtek device initialization. Because: 1. PTF crashes on start, exactly when the initialization happens. 2. Cakewalk runs but I can hear its has some difficulties to get started (strange noises). 3. Someone here who has the same problem has solved it by removing Realtek entry in his computer. But I cannot remove it. Unfortunately, I don't know how to contact Realtek engineers. Re: PTF still crashes
Hey, PT 2020.9 is also crashing for me.
I'm on Catalina 10.15.6. I've got a Macbook Pro and didn't connect any of my hardware to the system. As soon as I try to start PTF, it just straight crashes. No error, nothing. Just asking to send the report to Avid. That's all. |

I would uninstall Asio4all. Make you you download and install the latest driver for your interface from Focusrite. Reboot. Next make sure Windows isn’t using the Focusrite as it’s default sound device. One other thing you can try is deleting the PTF preferences, which basically clears any stored settings from earlier attempts at running PTF and starts from scratch. To do so, do the following: 1. Close Pro Tools. 2. Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press R. 3. When the Run window appears, type %appdata% and press OK. 4. Open the Avid folder, and delete the Pro Tools First folder. 5. Restart your computer and launch Pro Tools. Hopefully this will get you to the Playback Engine so you can select the Focusrite. |

What could be the procedure for Mac? Any Clue? I tried deleting the folders in the local like Troubleshooting guide had mentioned. Didn't quite work for me. |

1.) Close Pro Tools and launch Finder. 2.) Click Go and select Go to Folder… 3.) Enter ~/Library/Preferences/Avid and click Go. 4.) Delete the Pro Tools First folder. 5.) Restart your computer and launch Pro Tools. |
