Default Pro tools 8 LE unable to receive midi

this is happening in both 8.0 and 8.0.1 (in my version)

I open up a NEW_SESSION and set up a few strips (instrument track, midi track and master fader) okay...maybe a verb aux too :)

- the front of the 002 rack shows that midi data is making it through
- ams (audio midi setup for you noobs) is fine in test
-logic and reason have no problem receiving midi
-PRO TOOLS CAN'T DETECT A MIDI SIGNAL

we know this of course for a few reasons
1) no meter/level indicator in the inst channel section (all, none etc) of the the instrument track (kontakt in this case - but digi instruments ignore the midi data too)
2) no meters in the midi track indicator
3) see 1) and 2)

BUT!

If load up a prior session with instruments and whatnot then BINGO no problem receiving midi.

SO of course, I saved the working session as a template and just start form there these days.

the question still remains:

why, when creating a NEW session in pro tools 8 and then adding an instrument channel is it unable to receive midi when every other (logic, nuendo, reason AMS setup etc...) receive the exact same midi data.

AND!

how on earth can pro tools not receive midi when indeed the midi indicator light on the front of the 002 is going bonkers with midi?

whaddup pro tools 8?

MIDI Thru enabled?
MIDI Input Devices checked?
Default MIDI Thru instrument correct in Preferences>MIDI?

All of these could have an effect on MIDI reception.

hi and thanks for the response :)

midi thru enables? yes
midi input devices checked? yes
default midi thru instrument selected and correct? yes

again the thing that is so strange about this is that what you've described in the midi preferences are global. My situation is that a previous session created by me in PT LE8 that I saved as a template receives midi every time no problem - yet a new session with the exact same midi paramets/preferences does not. Every time.

something is fishy.

I've been using pro tools for close to 10 yrs and have never encountered this.

cheers!

AL

Is the new session based on that template?

Have you tried trashing preferences or MIDI prefs? To trash MIDI prefs:

Go to MacHD>Users>your account>Library>Preferences>By Host and trash 'com.apple.midi.a bunch of numbers and letters.plist'.

Go to MacHD>Users>your account>Library>Preferences and trash 'com.apple.audio.audiomidisetup.plist'.

Empty the trash and restart, then see if everything is working.

Hello and thanks again.

I trashed the plist preference files, emptied trash and re started but still no dice when creating a new session (not template) from scratch.

Once again, went to AMS setup and did the test and all is good. Also, the midi input light on the front of the 002 is receiving the signal.

Since there is no issue when using a previously created "music_template" that I created and saved, this must mean that when creating a brand new session, pro tools 8 software isn't picking up the changes to AMS or is somehow unable to receive the midi that AMS and the digi 002 both see.

I've got a screen shot for you and would like to send you my session which is all of 160k.

cheers,

AL

I have exactly the same problem under PT 8.0.1 M-Powered, running under Windows. Opening older sessions, I still have MIDI but for any new sessions, my MIDI controller is not recognised despite the input light flashing on the interface (an M-Audio ProjectMix) and input devices being enabled.

Would be really interested in a solution to this, suspect this started with 8.0.1 for me, though I also recently added EWQLSO, should that be of interest.

Well, I've gone back to PT 8.0cs3 for now, using a clean installion (uninstall, new user ID and reinstall). Quite drastic but I didn't have time to experiment and it was driving me crazy.

Occurring on my setup as well, unfortunate for me....I have no previous saved sessions to utilize as a template for midi instruments. Mac OS X 10.5.6, Pro Tools 8.0.1, Digi002R.

TuneSpin....Did this issue first occur after the 8.0.1 upgrade, or was it happening on your previous install of 8.0 as well? JRG1 reverted from 8.0.1 to 8.0cs3 and everything works as expected.

Thanks
