Default i need some help with building the right computer

okay, heres the deal. i just want to fool around with recording some guitar tracks and at some point maybe doin a budget demo for my own band in my basement. i have a 12 channel mixer, a m-audio firewire 410 (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...e410-main.html), and some condensor microphones. now i plan on kinda figuring out the program on my own and all that crap but i want to have it run as smoothly as possible. heres what i need to know:

1 - what version of pro tools should i be purchasing, taking into consideration what equipment i have right now
2 - what are some suggestions for computer set ups. im pretty familiar with building computers, seeing as how ive been doing it for nearly 20 years. i just have been having trouble finding a good straight forward answer. if anyone could suggest exactly what kinda hardware and software i need, being brand specific, i would very much appriciate it.

thanks for you time
-greg

Default Re: i need some help with building the right compu

1. with the maudio 410 you would have to purchase Pro Tools Mpowered (you might be able to find it cheaper...).

2. Build "The Allenstein Machine" from the first post in this thread, and you won't be sorry.

However, I would also recommend a different motherboard and processor at this point: the ASUS A8V Deluxe and one of the new dual core Athlon 64 processors, just for future compatibility.
