Default Windows 10 issue. Error 2753.

I've been running PT11 for a couple of years and recently upgraded my PC to Windows 10. This caused a couple of issues with PT which I have now resolved.

However... it meant reinstalling PT and I had to go back to PT10. I'm now trying to 'upgrade' back to PT11 but I keep getting the following message when I try and install it:

'Error 2753. The file 'protoolsusersetup.exe' is not marked for installation'

All drivers are up to date and I've downloaded the Ilok License Manager.

Anybody got any ideas on how to fix it?

Cheers

Pro Tools is not qualified for Win 10 yet, although some people are reporting success. Avid's official stand right now is "don't."

Most issues seem to be related to updating to Win 10, not doing a clean install

So Pro Tools 11 DOES work on Windows 10, (since I had it installed on Windows 8 and then upgraded to Windows 10) but you can't clean install Pro Tools 11 on Windows 10?

Shouldn't we still be ALLOWED to install on Windows 10, even if they don't recommend it? Because it's been that way in the past; I remember installing Pro Tools 10 on Windows 8 before it was "qualified"

Seems a little confusing and unnecessary if you ask me.

You can do whatever you want to...nothing prevents you from installing it. We're just saying it isn't supported yet, so you might have trouble getting any tech support. Try it! It might actually work.

'Error 2753. The file 'protoolsusersetup.exe' is not marked for installation'

is what's stopping me, goes almost all the way through installation and then I run into this error. I've even tried older versions of 11, no dice.

Aha! I recall an old program written for Win 2000 that would not install on XP...but it wasn't written to purposely prevent installation...just how it worked out. Try compatibility mode?

Tried

Oh well, guess it's all the way back to Pro Tools 10 until Avid finally responds to me!

Anybody else feel free to chime in, not making the Win 10 jump anytime soon. I have no desire or time to be a BETA tester. Is anybody running PT 11 successfully on Win 10 because you did a Windows UPDATE to 10, and not a clean install? I've read plenty of posts from people using WIN 10 with success on their ProTools rigs, even though Avid strongly advises against it.
