Re: CPU error 9173
do you have a lot of plug ins on the masterbus or the bus/aux where all tracks come together?
in this case its normal behavior to get 9175 errors with 50% or less cpu usage. this is by design. |

BTW there's no such thing as TMI (too much info) that can be given when asking for help here. I'd suggest putting system info in your profile page with a line in your sig file notating such info exists in your profile. Have a Merry Christmas! |

Not by design. And not normal behavior either.

Re: CPU error 9173
You say you can only mix with a 1024 buffer but have you tried 512?
I've noticed 512 runs everything smoother with the same amount of CPU efficiency as 1024 on my system. I know that doesn't sound right but I've actually experienced erratic CPU behavior (such as distorted audio) at 1024 that I don't experience at 512, 256 or 128. That may be due to my interface but 512 is equally CPU efficient. When I look at my PT usage meter to compare the two they read the same. 512 gives me the same lower CPU usage as 1024 without any erratic behavior. And I've mixed 64+ track plugin laden projects using a 512 setting without a hiccup using a 4 year old i5 machine. 512 seems to work smoothest using MIDI instruments also. Give it a try. Additional Note: Try freezing your Toontrack VI and see how things go. Sometimes drum VI's with highly active cymbals and/or convolution reverbs are the cause of CPU related errors. Re: CPU error 9173
HI take77, thanks for your reply. I have tried everything at one time or another but 1024 seems to give me the least interuptions. Sometimes playback sounds like an old transistor radio from the 60's at 512. On face value it gets worse the more work i do as CPU is being used but i would have thought that the system should handle it. I just tried it at 512 and the 9173 kicked in after about 30 seconds. The CPU window showed it jumping between 78% and 100% until it crashed out. The RAM was around 52%. I have also tried disabling Toontrack too but it didn't make any difference. Thanks for your advice though, it is appreciated, Cheers

Re: CPU error 9173
5400 rpm are really slow and I bet your problems comes from them. Did you try with an SSD?

Re: CPU error 9173
HI Musicman, thanks for your reply. Someone else has suggested an SSD too. Would that involve just replacing the external drives with an SSD or just connect an additional SSD to handle my PT program and files ?

HI Emi, thanks for your reply. I think this SSD idea could be worth trying. Can you recommend a particular SSD ? Cheers

Re: CPU error 9173
You're going to have to change ALL your drives - both internal and external. Also as I said that cpu you have is underpowered for running Pro Tools. Anything else and you're wasting time. You have a computer that's only good for web surfing and email but not music at least with PT.
