Default Copy/paste midi and velocity only

In pro tools 12. I have tracks with a lot of automation included. I want to copy the notes and velocities if possible from one track to a different track. I dont want to copy the other automation (especially from a piano that uses sustain pedal info). I only want the notes none of the other details. Is this possible?

hi, once you copy and paste to the new track you could: under the edit menu "Clear Special" ... "All Automation" ... this leaves your Midi Notes and Velocities in tact ... hope this helps ..

john

LAOS: if you have any EuCon controllers or PT|Control, there is a key / command for Clear Special ...

There's a few ways to do it, but probably the fastest is just to copy everything and then delete the sustain controller info you don't want on that track. If that's not your thing, then just copy the notes in notes view on the track or the midi editor window.

hi,

copying with Notes still takes all that underlying controllers (sustain -64, etc) ... i tried a couple other things but the above Clear Special All Automation, seem to be the only way to achieve this so far .. i have a few more minutes and will keep looking .. i thought maybe a right click would have an option to copy with options of what to copy .. like automation, controllers, etc ...

If you copy just the notes from the MIDI editor it doesn't bring the controller data with it. Granted, it's definitely a pain in the ass way of doing it going between 2 windows and trying to get your cursor in the same spot, so copying and just deleting the data you don't want is still my preferred route.

copy that ... no pun intended !!! ...

but, if i copy from ME to Edit window all that comes along - then you just do what you and I are both saying, just remove what you do not need it a couple of different ways ...

to the OP, sorry but it is at least a 2 step process it seems ...

I haven't tried this, but have you tried turning off "Automation Follows Edit" and then control+option clicking the region and dragging it to a new track?
