Default MIDI playback stopped working

While in the middle of a session, one of the instrument tracks started playing only the first note and nothing else.

5 Tracks total: Problem track was using BFD Lite (stereo). Also had Hybrid instrument, vocal (mono) and guitar (stereo) audio tracks and click track.

First tried different instruments like TL Metro with same result.

Closing Pro Tools and restarting brought the instrument back, but wondered if there was a faster way than shutting the application down.
