Default Dialnorm Conform -24LKFS

Hello All,

I'm in the process of auditioning some software for automatic -LKFS conforms.

This is not for use for things I am mixing however much of my work involves prepping assets for VOD delivery. In the last year some clients have started asking for audio to conform to -24 LKFS standards.

Without having time / money to go back and remix to match I have found a few pieces of software that can process files and auto correct (Not Ideal I know but it will have to do).

Do any of you have experience with any of the two below or can recommend one not on my watch list.

Either Pro Tools Plugin or Standalone.

NuGen LM Correct

VidChecker Audio Tools

Thanks for any feedback.

cheers
Kevin

I have the Nugen LMB software. While it does the job of passing QC, nothing beats Good metering (Nugen) and hand riding your project into spec. It really doesn't take too much time to do it right.

Nugen LMB is designed for batch correcting a whole bunch of files, LM-Correct would probably be the go as it is simple to use as an audiosuite plugin (or a standalone app.) PT11 ready as well. A good meter is also worthwhile to get you in the ballpark before you use something to correct the file ie: Nugen VisLM or say TC LM2 radar meter.

A quick trip through Audition CS6 can do this. You'll have to decide for yourself if you like the sonic results.

@Peter Cole, thanks for the feedback, this is for delivered HD video masters which I have no access to mix sessions.

I would be properly metering for sessions I am mixing.

So if it passes QC that's really all I"m looking for.

cheers

You can set up a batch process once you have tuned your delivery specs inside LMB. Set up a "Watched folder" and anything you drop into the folder will be processed.

I would go for a standalone solution that allows batch processing.
Nugen LMB, Grimm Audio Level One or Twistedwave are nice solutions.
Make sure it recognizes split monos as stereo or surround mixes and it provides a limiter in case a positive offset generates overs.

I would recommend against any type of "auto-leveling" processing, as the sonic results typically aren't super-pleasant.

A much better workflow is to get a metering plugin that measures according to the specific standards that your client requires (1770-1, 1770-2, or 1770-3) such as the Dolby Media Meter or Waves Loudness Meter. Then measure your mix in the time window that your client requires (some require that each act meets spec, others only require that the entire duration of program meets spec).

Then just trim your comp mix up or down by however much you need in order to get it in spec (which is normally -24 dB LKFS). For instance, if act 1 measures out to -22.5dB LKFS, then trim it by -1.5dB. If act 2 measures to -25.7dB LFKS, then trim it by +1.7dB.

This way you're perfectly in spec, and nothing is messing with your mix in terms of dynamics.

Thanks for the feedback alexeymohr. I do use WLM on mixes I am performing.

This is for finished TV / FILM HD deliveries that have no money / time to go back to mixing and I only have access to the 5.1 PrintMaster
