I thought I'd heard of people getting the BTD error on systems that don't even use a firewire card, such as 001 and Mbox, and some have reported it on the Mac side, too.

Teleplayer,
I hear you but I'm keeping an eye on this thread to see if anyone with a SIIG card is having the issue - or an 001.
Seems curious to me that I can slap a generic FW card in my machine and repro everytime. Put the SIIG card in that I picked up at bestbuy and have no issues. For 40 bucks it may be worth the gamble to someone.

Anyone getting the BTD with a SIIG card?

Okay.. I'm back up with a new Asus P4C800 Deluxe motherboard with P4 2.6 GHhz CPU.. which I believe is the same as Nikki is running, but I'm not overclocking (Nikki you wild animal ). I also have disabled the Promise controller on the motherboard. I have the built in FireWire active, but I continue to use my Adaptec 4300A FireWire card with my 002.

Fresh XP install (with every update) and installed PT 5.3.2 - the PT app only.

Loaded a TDM session which after dropping tracks ends up with 32 audio tracks. I create 6 mono Aux tracks and 1 stereo master fader.

The session has a fairly large number of edits with crossfades.

Write some automation, add the following plug-ins.. which at this time are only Digi plug-ins as I haven't yet reinstalled all my others.

1 x stereo compressor
6 x mono compressors
3 x DVerbs set to Hall, (mono/stereo)
1 x DVerb set to Room1 (mono/stereo)
5 x Expander/Gates (mono)
1 x Stereo Limiter
32 x 4 band EQ (mono)
6 x 4 band EQ (stereo)
1 x Stereo extra long delay
1 x mono long delay II

This ends up giving me:

32 x Audio tracks
5 x Aux tracks (mono/stereo)
1 x Aux track (mono)
1 x Stereo Master Fader

Buffer = 512 samples
CPU = 65%
DAE = level 2

Session 44.1kHz, 24 bit - BTD to 44.1 24bit stereo interleaved, convert after bounce.

Session and BTD target all on my C: drive for this test.

--------------------------

TEST RESULTS
******************

With the above settings I can BTD with 5.3.2 - adding one more 4 band EQ causes the DAE error with 3:16 remaining.

With the above settings I can BTD with 6.1 - adding another DVerb and I can still BTD with success.. I stopped testing at this point as it shows that BTD is not broken on my system.

I believe this indicates that it may very well be some setting or combination of settings which is causing it to fail on your systems.

Rail - excellent (tedious) work. Got the time (and disk space) to convert it to a 48khz session, and try again? Maybe it's SRC?

I may just have to take a crack at the SIIG card. What exact model number is it?

Thanks,

Digi 002 with 6.1
A7N8X rev.1.3
Athlon XP 3000+ Barton CPU
Saphir Radeon 8500 LE 64 MB Vid Card
Adaptec FireConnect 4300 firewire card
TwinMos PC3200 1024 MB RAM
TEAC CD Burner
Pioneer DVD Drive
IBM 60GB 2MB Cache 7200RPM Sytem Drive
Seagate Barracuda 8MB Cache 7200RPM Audio Drive
Windows XP Pro w/ SP1
This is dedicated to audio only

I didn΄t try the DaveC test on my new machine with PT 6.1
But Tracking and Mixing work fine even on high track count (32tracks and loads of Plugins)
It΄s just the bouncing that wont work. I too get the infamous "Bounce handler can not keep up"
I even reformated my System drive and installed PT 6.1 with only the Digi-Rack Plugins. But that
didn΄t help. Also changing the Page size didn΄t help either.
I had no such problems with PT 5.3.2

Have you set your Advanced Performance Processor scheduling option to "Background services"?

Yeah,

I think I have tried nearly everything thats been suggested on the duc
regarding this topic.
But there΄s something else I΄d like to know.
For exsample I have a session at 24Bit /44.1 kHz which I want to bounce to 16/44.1
When bouncing doesn΄t work and I΄ll have to bus all my tracks to my master fader
and then record it to a seperate stereo audio track.
Can I just export the track to a stereo .wav when I have a Dither
plugin on my master fader? Or will I have to reimport my recorded stereo track to a
new session and then BTD with a dither plugin on the master fader?

If you're bussing to another pair of tracks (not using a Master Fader, but a Stereo Aux Fader) then you shouldn't dither. Reimport the bounced file into a new session, create a Master Fader with dither to reduce the resolution.

If you use Export region as files, the built-in dither will be applied, if you want to use pow-R or something else, then BTD.
