Default Thunderbolt to firewire adaptor....?

Hi, I just purchased PT12 and a new refurbished MB Pro. My external audio drive is firewire and usb3 but my MB only has 2 Usb3 ports which I need for my Ilok and interface. There is no firewire port on my MB pro so I bought a thunderbolt to firewire adaptor. Is this going to work or cause problems does anybody know? Thanks in advance

Hi

That will work as it would with a thunderbolt to Thunderbolt or FW to FW

Let us know if you have any problems.
Best Wishes
Christopher

Thanks, my main concern was that it would slow the transfer/recording down and cause the drive to overheat or something. Hopefully not though!

Hi, no nothing like that

Many people use adapters and we used a few of them until our Apollo Quad interfaces got Thunderbolt 2 cards so no worries there. It won't be measurable speedwise unless you have a laboratory with fully geeked out thingamajiggas and super tech guys who are prepared to work 24/7/365 for you to measure speed loss and transfer loss

We didn't noice any change in speed or transfer rates with direct FW-FW until we went all Thunderbolt 2 on all our devices.

I tested an Apple TB to Firewire adapter against a PCIe firewire card a year or so ago and got 3-4 times the throughput on an external drive. Yer' good to go!

I suggest getting a USB hub to plug in low powered USB devices such as your iLok

That will also help with any iLok errors as it's a known issue that iLok2's don't get along well with USB3 ports.
