Default Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Information

From the News section of the website, October 26, 2007:

Information on Pro Tools Compatibility with Mac OS X Leopard
Quote:

Digidesign is excited about Apple’s new Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) release, and is working closely with Apple to bring support for the entire Pro Tools® product line to Apple’s latest operating system. Because Pro Tools software will not function with Leopard at this time, please wait to upgrade your operating system if you’re using Pro Tools on a Mac until we officially announce Leopard support.

Initial Leopard-compatibility with Pro Tools will not include support for Avid Mojo® and Avid Mojo® SDI, however support for Avid® video peripherals is expected in a future Pro Tools compatibility update.
If you do choose to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), you will need to install it on a separate hard drive or drive partition. To use Pro Tools 7 currently, you will need to boot from a Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) startup system.

Pro Tools HD 7.4.1

Digidesign is pleased to announce Pro Tools® compatibility for Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) with Pro Tools HD® 7.4.1 software, the first of a phased Pro Tools update release. Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software provides Mac OS X 10.5.1 compatibility* with Apple’s current 8-core Mac Pro computers (those featuring Intel “Harpertown” processors).

Expanded Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) support will be announced later, so please wait until official announcements are made before upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.

Registered Mac Pro-based Pro Tools HD 7.4 users may download the free Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software update below (be sure to read the release notes before updating your system).

Important — Please be aware that some currently shipping plug-ins and virtual instruments are not compatible with Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 running on Mac OS X 10.5.1, and some require that you update your plug-ins if an update is available. Before you install the Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 update, be sure to review the plug-in compatibility and update information here.

*Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software works with Mac OS X 10.5.1 only, and is NOT compatible with Apple’s new Mac OS X 10.5.2 release. Please do not update your OS until we’ve made an official announcement about compatibility.

Requirement — You will need a Pro Tools HD 7.4 iLok license to use Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 software.
Pro Tools LE®, Pro Tools M-Powered™, Pro Tools|HD PCI (not PCIe) systems, older Intel-based Mac Pro computers, Avid Mojo® SDI, and expansion chassis are currently not compatible with the Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) operating system.

For all systems other than Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 for Mac Pro:

To use Pro Tools LE or M-Powered 7.x currently, you will need to boot from a Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) startup system.
  • If you choose to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), you will need to install Leopard on a separate hard drive or drive partition.
  • If you purchase a new Mac with Mac OS X 10.5 preinstalled, you will need to install Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) on a separate hard drive or drive partition.
  • If you are purchasing a new Mac with Mac OS X 10.5 preinstalled, check with Apple to see if your computer is able to boot from Mac OS X 10.4.

Update: Information on Pro Tools Compatibility for Mac OS X 10.5.3

Over the last several months, we have been working closely with Apple on fine tuning Pro Tools for OS X Leopard 10.5.3. Now that Apple has released version 10.5.3 we can enter the final stages of performance testing and quality assurance before making fully qualified versions of Pro Tools HD, LE and M-Powered software available to our customers.

As a convenience for our customers who may wish to begin their transition to Apple’s latest Leopard release as soon as possible, you can get started with pre-release versions of Pro Tools 7.4.2 that we will make available in the next few days. While the pre-release version of Pro Tools 7.4.2 has passed core internal testing requirements, the process for manufacturing fully qualified Pro Tools software normally takes up to several weeks to complete depending on performance and stability.

Stay tuned here for the latest news and updates on our progress.

Please note, however, that Pro Tools HD® 7.4.1 software is currently fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.1 (Leopard) when running on Apple’s current 8-core Mac Pro computers. For details on Pro Tools HD compatibility with Leopard on the 8-core Mac Pro, please visit the Pro Tools HD 7.4.1 Intel Mac Support page:
www.digidesign.com/support/hd741intelmac

As always, we appreciate your patience and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this delay has caused.

Important — Please be aware that some currently shipping plug-ins and virtual instruments are not compatible with Pro Tools running on Mac OS X Leopard and some require that you update your plug-ins if an update is available. Be sure to review the plug-in compatibility and update information here:
