Avalon 737
Hey guys so Im really close to buying this, its going to be a big step up from my toneport UX2 Line 6. I was just wondering, is it possible to run the plug ins from my pro tools through the AVALON 737. Like to send the sound from lets say the mini grand plug in that comes with PT then internally rerout it to go through the avalon for better compressed and bigger sound? I just thought of that, and I feel like I dont really know what buses are in a multitrack view so if someone can please tell me what those are thatd be great!
Thanks |

Re: Avalon 737
I don't think there's a way to do this on the toneport, because of the i/o limitations.
But I don't think you'd gain anything with something like that because you would lose quality with the extra d/a and a/d conversion, negating any benefit from the Avalon. There are plenty of plugins that will do a nice job in this area. Also, the compressor on the Avalon is not really what it's known for, I've heard it's not that great. |

Re: Avalon 737
Oh here we go. I might get blasted for this but I'm gonna go ahead and suggest you don't buy a 737. It's got absolutely NO character AT ALL. It's like a REALLY expensive DI lol!! For that money, get something with some balls. Get something with personality.
That said.. I use my 737 on every session. It's likely the cleanest preamp on earth for vocals, and the eq is awesome for fixing junk or adding some shimmery air at the top end of the spectrum. The compressor is nearly unusable but again- VERY clean. Sorry for the rant. I just don't wanna see you make the same mistake I did when I started out. I thought that because everyone talks about how great it is and the whopper price tag that it must be great. It is... At one or two things. Vocals and clean electric bass. Blah

Re: Avalon 737
THe first thing to do when purchasing a 737 is to do the 'Babyface' mod. It's basically a capacitor change on the little sub board behind the meter. It works as a compressor speed multiplier (both attack and release). Makes the compressor an awesome part of the chain, rather than a sluggish counterpart.
