Default Re: Intel Core2Duo ... anyone got one working yet?

I just got my case, power supply, E6600, Asus p5b, ram and windows so its time to get busy ! Still need the video card ? What do you supose an X6800 will do ? It may well get into the Quad's domain. I really like the mirrored drive idea, I am no expert on the matter, but there should be at least a couple of Asus deluxe running soon maybe someone can report in. I am currious to see how hardware differences effect the tests and how the different core 2's compare. My machine will be a dedicated Protools worksation so I should get a pretty good idea of what she's good for. cdxpats Davec tests are the best I have seen for any single cpu system, any one seen better ? I am not sure if the tests are done for 7.0 or 7.1 need to do some reading.

I will keep you all posted, and good luck to all !

Strange Magic, Bob

hey

I bought this new high spec laptop from dell: dual core inspiron 1024 mb ram and a 7200 rpm disk.

I've tried pt 6.7 and 7.0 and both are giving me messages about the hd buffer size even when the sessions a new one and im trying to record just one track. any one got a solution to this???
Even in windows Playin standard audio files with media player the sound crackles an interrupts sometimes.

I heard that i can fix the problem by turning one cpu off in the bios but maybe anybode knows how to fix the problem running 2 processors, since i read that pro tools le runs with botch processors from other users with similar dell systems.

Thx alot

Default Re: Intel Core2Duo ... anyone got one working yet?

I finally have got my new System up and running. Here´s what I have:

Digi002 with PTLe 7.0
Intel E6600 core 2 duo
Asus P5B Deluxe (without WiFi)
2 GB DDR2-800 G.Skill 2GBNR
Connect 3D X1900 XT
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA II (System)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA II (Audio)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB SATA I (Audio)
Lian Li PC-60 Plus II case

Fresh install of WinXP with SP2 and all Security patches.
After the updates I deactivated all Network Cards

D-Verb Test settings were:
Session @48kHz/24Bit
H/W Buffer @1024
CPU Usage Limat @90%

With those settings I got 131 D-Verbs ) in record and Playback

UPDATE
I also did the DaveC II Test and so far completed all 3 Levels
up to Test 11 (32 + 96)
I haven't tried Test 12 yet. So i'm going to dl that now and see, if
my system can handle it, although the graphics refresh were already pretty laggy at test 11

Hi all...

Great to see some of these results coming in. Getting 120-130 Dverbs from an E6600 is fantastic - have you guys thought of overclocking? Various reviews say the E6600 can run stable at speeds in INXS of 3ghz (sorry - bad Aussie joke). Any results from an E6700 out there?

My (mate's) machine got put off for a week, so fingers crossed it should happen this week! Still, got a nice new Titleist 3 wood...

Hmmm

I have just purchased a DELL XPS 410, with the 6400-2 core duo froom Intel, 2 gig ram, and a 250G data safe hard drive, all stock.
I disabled the RAID setting giving me, two 250G hard drives a c and an e drive, set the recommended XP settings from Digidesign, purchased 7.0 LE and this thing is working really sweet.

Hey guys

A little off topic but I just thought I'd get in early and register this name for forums purposes! The AMD crowd have the "Quadzilla" for their dual Opteron setup (which is on the way to getting spanked by our new Intel Core 2Duo rigs - sorry Shan!). So - when the new Kentsfield Quad core Intel systems arrive we will call them ...

The QUADFATHER !!!

What you think?

Cheers

wow.. imagine what the ketsfields are going to pull ...
thats only 3 d-verbs less than the initial quadzilla..
I'd like to see how these things go over long sessions.. has anyone really put it through the ringer for a few days in a row ?

Bump. Any new results on the Core 2 Duo boards guys? I have the X6800 CPU and ordered the case, power supply and memory (Corsair XMS) today. Still have not selected a motherboard yet but I will get this in town. Thinking about the Asus P5B Deluxe (non WiFi version) still but need to talk to someone that is using Raid 1 (mirror mode). Anyone using this feature on the Asus P5B Deluxe?

Greg

["hey cdxpat. So how have you configured your machine? Did you back off your ram to a lower speed? Are you overclocking anything? As I said earlier, I'm considering a P5N32 SLI SE Deluxe (too long a name for a MoFo MoBo). Hopefully the Nforece 4 SLI chipset will be ok - the Nforce 4 seems to have been fine with the AMD stuff. After that I'll add 2x 7600GS Silents - should give acceptable performance for (ahem!) games as well as silent computing for recording..."]

Running everything as standard auto configured - the ASUS EN 7950 graphics card works fine just has to be configured as two graphics cards to get both monitors working in protools and configured as one for maximum games performance.

Im using the ASUS P5WDG2 WS Pro board and its been rock solid so far. However the ASUS drivers leave a lot to be desired. The ASUS video drivers that came with the card or the ASUS site never worked - I had to get the same release of the driver from the Nvidia site which did work, and the updated ASUS high def Audio sound drivers ruined the sound so i had to roll back. That said the high definition audio sound card on this board is very good for general use much better than any PC sound i've heard before.
