Default just got the M-Audio oxygen 49 v2

My wife bought me this midi controller for Christmas and I can't monitor it through my speakers, but can record and playback through them. I'm totally new to midi and protools and I am racking my brain to get this thing to work properly. I followed the directions, hooked it up to my macbook pro in one usb port and my Mbox 2 is plugged into my other usb port. I know this is extremely vague here, but I have never recorded with midi before. I bought this thing cause it stated that it's a protools plug-in play device. It's showing up when I go into setup and midi. I got one of the sliders to move on the db-33 when I move it on the oxygen. Anyway, what correct setup do I use first? One instrument track, and a midi track to record to? I think I used an instrument track to record and play back with about an hour ago. Yes I'm embarrassing myself here with this rambling, but I just need someone to give me a quick step-by-step setup so I can go off to the races.

Equipment
Macbook Pro 2.4 ghz 4 gigs ram OSX 10.5.8
Protools 8.03
Mbox 2
Lacie 1 Tb drive

Chapter 20: "MIDI Recording" from document "Pro Tools Reference Guide" is about 16 pages. Just follow it...

Default Re: just got the M-Audio oxygen 49 v2

thank you. Here's another description of my issue:

I followed the directions for installing the midi keyboard and protools recognizes and lists it. My question is: How do you set up to record from my keyboard? I did everything the manual said to do. I created an instrument track inserted the DB-33 and hit the record button and played some keys, but can't hear or see an indication on the meter when I press any of the keys. I am on P10 btw. But the C27-32 buttons work and I got a slider C9 to work too. Now here's where it confuses me; I hit the record/play button on PT, play a few chords with the keyboard and MIDI is then getting written to the instrument track, but I can't monitor it. I then hit return with the midi keyboard and PT plays back what I just recorded . . . now playing through my monitors. In peripherals under MIDI control, oxygen 49 is selected as input/output 8 channels. So I don't know what else is going on. Someone please help.

Is "Options -> MIDI Thru" checked?

P.S.: You can use next software watch MIDI messages before they comes into Pro Tools.
For Mac: http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
For Windoz )): http://www.midiox.com/
