Default OS10.5.4, PT7.4.2 Quicktime Responsiveness Issues

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong here?

Have just upgraded OS from 10.4.9 to 10.5.4. PT has gone from 7.4.1 to 7.4.2. Quicktime version 7.5. Mac is a Dual 2Gig G5 with 2.5G RAM. Video currently displaying on Mac monitor, not externally through canopus etc.

Pro-tools is now very unresponsive when hitting play with ANY (.mov, AVI, DV) video in the session (takes 1-2 seconds to start playback). If I deactivate the video tracks, playback happens instantaneously. Video is on a fast internal drive, separate to any audio and I didn't experience any of these issues with the previous setup on the same computer.

Adjusting the following made no difference:

QT Playback Priority
H/W Buffer Size
CPU Usage Limit
DAE playback buffer size
Moving the Video to another disk
Delay Compensation engine (I know shouldnt have anything to do with it but I tried anyway)
Trashing Databases
Restarting the System

Any thoughts from anyone greatly appreciated

cheers

Tony

Hi Tony
try this, we had the same problem.
go in to the Mac system preferences, click sound, then output. change to output to optical digital output.
This got rid of a 4 second pause before playing on our machines, don't no why but it did.
I think it is a OS/QT oddity.

Pete - you're a genius. Nice one, that fixed it. Thank you

Digi? Any ideas why that would happen?
