Default G Drive or Glyph drive- advice please ?!

hello-
I have to get an external hard drive for my PT 9.05 (running on OSX Lion)Laptop McBook Pro 13".

-I know the recommended and tested drive for PT is Glyph(and that's the one that i wanted), but I have a discount coupon/gift card where i can get the G Drive mini(7200rpm, 500GB(G-technologies) for half of the price.

-the one thing it doesn't come with the power supply(kindda trickery they don't sell it together with the PS...? !) so it has to be powered by the uSB or firewire , ( i am worried that maybe that taxes the computer a little bit, specially when running a somewhat larger pt session having to share/provide power to the hard drive and the cpu at the same time, or no?

* (i've read and heard from audio/video people that they have been using the Gdrives successfully and it's becoming more popular among PT users)

-thanks for any info.

Get these, just as reliable as Glyph, but less expensive:

They have other sizes as well.

I have seen issues with G drives, so I don't recommend them(or Lacie either). Glyph are the best, but you pay for it. OWC are my second choice and what I recommend to anyone not wanting to spend Glyph prices

I have a glyph drive and I really enjoy it. Sometimes I wish I had one of those small lacie drives. Usually if you are recording an artist you can have them bring their own drives if you need to save $

I agree with NST. If you dont want to spend money on a glyph buy owc. I own both myself and they are both great.
But do not get a usb powered drive for your sessions. Get one of those if you want to back up media like pictures or mp3s or something...

Glyph has released new drives lately with usb 3 support. There is also a portable recording drive that is bus powered.

The thing with Glyph is their support. And their warranty. Second to none. With free data recovery. Glyph all the way!!!! OWC has quality stuff to save a few bucks. But check out Glyph's warranty and data recovery. Unreal!
