Default Importing audio by drag and drop problem

I'm having a problem with the drag and drop method, from either workspace or from finder. When I choose the drag and drop method, it can take pro tools up to 30, 40, or 50 seconds to import the audio. For the majority of the time, the apple beach ball is spinning. This is weird because I remember a time it didn't have to do this. I opened up the task manager and did this again to see if pro tools was doing anything. For the majority of the time, nothing pops up and shows up, and at the last 2 or 3 seconds, it shows an audio file converting. This problem doesn't occur if im using the file > import > audio fuction.

The closest thing I could find to this problem is this: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...&categoryid=34

but this is describing audio with movie clips...

I've already trashed my prefs a few times and nothing has changed. I guess I'm fine using the import audio feature, I'm just used to using the drag and drop method. Anyone else have this problem??

According to your description you're running 10.6.4.
Please kkep in mind mac os 10.6.4 is NOT supported by pro tools 8.0.3cs2. (Wich officially support only up to 10.6.2).

Your problem could be OS compatibility dependent problem. You sould try the same steps under 10.6.2.

Anyway keep in mind that if you import a 44.100 kHz file into a 48.000 kHz project or vice versa pt has to convert source file to the project freq and resolution. So this delay could be due to the conversion task.

Hope this help

but wouldn't those same conversations, and the delay they create, apply for importing > file > audio?

I have recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have encountered the same problem with Mac OS X 10.6.4 today. However, I did notice that it only affects files that need conversion (eg: interleaved stereo): mono wavs drop just fine.
