Default Virtual Singer plug-in or software?

I recall seeing some info a year or two ago about a "virtual singer" plug-in that allowed the user to select a vocal "model" (one of a few different male or female voices modeled after some different studio singers.)

Using midi to define melody and phrasing and text input to define the lyrics you could create fairly realistic "synthesised/sampled" vocals using this plug-in that would allow you to simulate a real singer reasonably well.

Does anyone know of a plug or stand-alone program that does this?

thanks,
maxx

PS - FWIW this is for a web-based project for one of my commercial clients. I'd never dream of using this stuff for "real" music unless it was for a specific effect!!

There was a lot of excitement about the Vocaloid software when it came out, but it seemed to fizzle fast. It's probably useful as an interesting special effect, but not a substitute for real singing (even for really low budgets). Also note that it's VST (although I think it can be used with ReWire).

Some good reviews here:
