Default Digi MMERefresh still needed?

Somewhere along the line while upgrading/updating through to 10.1.2 the MMERefresh service was broken on my Win7 box. I get an error in the system log that it is not found - path \Program Files\Digidesign\Pro Tools\mmerefresh -s. There's also a reference to run this at logon that is broken too. The file can be found in the \Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools\ folder or an older version in \Program Files\Digidesign\Drivers\. Does this matter anymore? I just changed the registry entry to point to the newer version in the Avid folder. Maybe this is causing other issues - not really sure what the function is.
