EDL - which software to open an edl
Hi there,
I got an .edl file from a video editor. But I don't know how to open it so that I can see what's written. I tried to just write the ending ".txt" instead of .edl to the file, but it didn't help. Any hints which software does the job? I use Pro Tools 2018 on a MAC Pro. I don't use any video software, I am audio specialist only. Thanks for any hints. |

Conformalizer by The Cargo Cult opens it as well. I am not sure what you are trying to achieve though?

Re: EDL - which software to open an edl
If you have Excel you can try opening it with that from the .edl or your version renamed to .txt It should give you the option to set the new workbook to Tab Delimited.
If not you could send me the file and I can convert it to text from Media Composer. Andrew (andrewatactiontvnz.com) |

Re: EDL - which software to open an edl
Any EDL that we can do anything with is just a text file and can be opened in your favorite text editor, with or without renaming it. If you can't open it, then it's some sort of proprietary binary file and you'll have to ask them to redo as a standard text EDL.

Re: EDL - which software to open an edl
Most EDLs are written with basic text characters. So you should be able to just drop the EDL file onto the TextEdit app icon in the dock. Some old Sony EDL formats aren't so you'd need a specialised app to open it like Avid media composer.
If you want to do something more than just read the EDL in TextEdit you can use an app like EdiLoad (which I created) to create markers or clips at the picture edit points, create a PT track containing clips where scenes start and end, or use it to compare picture EDLs to cut your session for picture changes. Regards, Mark
