Default D-Command issues

Am I the only person that has to permanently Recal faders and power cycle my D-Command?
The faders on my console are unresponsive and frequently when I grab a fader the level dives down to infinite whatever position the fader was in. Also if I do not put a LOT of pressure on the faders, the level jerks erratically up and down by 3-4 dB. I have today almost completely resorted to mixing using the mouse.

Power cycling and Recal sometimes make things better temporarily, but it is still frustrating.

Any ideas?

I believe there is a board in the D-Command which is a fader control board. I had one replaced when a bank of 8 faders would stop working. Sounds like you have a different issue, but similar enough to possibly point to this board.

It's odd. During the first few months of owning my D Command, I had issues like this. Thankfully it has settled down and the unit behaves itself for the most part these days.

I never did anything and assumed it was firmware updates that fixed it.

Give Tech Support in the UK a call. They can advise with troubleshooting procedures to narrow it down to a possible hardware failure.

Here's a couple of things to check out before calling them which can speed up the process a lot :

Utility test mode : How do the 'suspicious' faders react to :

- Touch mode : what's the frequency read out compare to faders that behave well ?
- Step mode : Do the suspicious faders follow the healthy ones ?

Run cycle mode for a while .... it will automatically stop and resume itself periodically. Good test to run ... it will clean the fader tracks while giving them a good workout.

Try to narrow it down to which faders exactly will misbehave.

Take that info to tech support and your'e likely half way to a possible solution.

Contact info on the digidesign website : Support > Contact.

Cheers for the answers guys

I got through the day with a few power cycles etc in the end, and for the next few days I am working in other rooms with D-Controls. So I have left it with our engineers to try and figure it out between them and Digidesign tech support.

But I will pass all your info/suggestions on to them.

Thanks again.
