Default Is HD for Me?

So, I am about to step foot into the world of PT HD, and was wondering if my assumption to my setup would be correct. I'm running LE right now on a Dell Precision 690 Intel Xeon Dual Core 5120 @ 1.86GHz 2 GB RAM. This computer is pretty heavy duty, and is lightning fast in LE. I also have the digi 003 as my control surface. Now, I just purchased an HD1 core PCI card, and am about to match it with an interface, pref. a 192. I also realize that the digi 003 console is not compatable with PT HD, so I would need a new control surface. Budget wise I'm keeping it simple for now. So for the time being I want to run PT 8 HD with the HD1 core card & 192 using a command 8 as a control (selling/trading the 003). Am I in the ballpark here for what I need? Will this step up to a basic HD setup, improve my workflow on PT? Any other options I should be looking at? Thanks Guys

Sounds good. You might want to add more RAM though depending on what you do and how you do it.

If you're buying your system new, make sure to shop around a bit, it's very possible the stores will be able to go down a bit in price. Also be sure to check out any offers Digi might be running.

yeah about 3 more hd cards and you should be up to speed with your current setup

actually, hd1 i feel is extremly underpowered.do you run large sessions?

I would rather have a PT Le setup then a HD1.
Even HD2 lacks compared to native systems as you'll run out of voices/dsp really quick if you are using lot's of auxes and the dithered mixer. After upgrading to an HD3 i finally start to feel the benefit of a TDM system for my projects, though I still get the DSP shuffling thing with semi-large projects.

No idea what you're trying to do. Get Delay Compensation for a couple of tracks? Bragging rights?

My track counts I barely max out in LE, yet I do tend to run loads of plugins, which sometimes slows me down, so running my tracks off DSP I feel would help me benefit

I'm with pepper here. Addressing the question "Is HD for me?" - Why do you think you NEED hd?

EDIT: Just saw you're response. I would consider getting one of the toolkits and more ram WAY before HD. Upgrading to HD for track count alone is silly.

An HD6 has less DSP available than your CPU. An HD1 just cripples you.

Try an uncrippled DAW like Reaper to see what your CPU can do already. E.g. freezing VI tracks and the like.

HD is Ozymandias.

Yeah hopefully u put ur KROGER CARD to use when u got the DSP cards otherwise u really wasted money unless u plan on keeping the KROGER CARD out & add 2 or 5 more core/accel cards...

Ok I see, I originally wanted an HD rig because I will be opening up a pro recording studio within the next year. I also have quite a bit of analog gear. I assumed I might be a canadate for HD because of this but i as I said before, I really don't know much about HD. So If I am correct, I wouldn't benifeit from an hd1 or hd2 system, and should just think about a toolpack and more ram?
