My head is melted, Digi003 not picked up in PT9

I know im not the first person to have this but ive tried all the fixes I can find on the site!.
ok heres the state of play.
Had PT8.0.4 installed with Digi 003 , windows 7, all working no probs.
Did the upgrade to 9, no sign of digi003 only option is the onboard pc sound.
Searched the DUC, saw I needed new digi003 drivers, popped them on, still no joy.
Removed PT9 and reinstalled it from scratch, still no joy.
head scratching for 24 hours.
Removed everything, digi 003 drivers, pt9 the works.
Reinstalled digi003 drivers, reinstalled PT9, still nothing.
removed everything AGAIN.
Installed PT9, then the digi003 drivers, still nothing.
At the moment im reinstalling 8 and getting my digi back online and then im going to install the latest digi003 drivers and upgrade to 9 again.
if this doesnt work ive no ideas!
Anyone else losing the will to live?

Win7 firewall blocks everything on every network (it considers 1394 to be a network connection) except things that get explicitly allowed. It should ask you during the installation of PT9 whether you're sure you want to allow the 003. If it did, and you said yes, then it might not be the problem. But it could. Does it show up in the device manager as an installed and working sound device?

I'll second that. Go to control panel and make sure that Digiedesign 003 is showwing up. I had to manually install it to get PT9 to see it. Win7 kept blocking it.

installing from pt8 and upgrading worked!
very odd, something like what your suggesting must have happened when I did the original install

I just read your issue; I have the exact same problem-the 003 is showing up as a 'sound device', not in the Control Panel but the Devices and Printers screen. The properties menu says there are no drivers installed, and the updated drivers I installed for the 003 aren't showing up when I drill down to check the actual dll files.
