Default hard drive recommendations?

hey there,

looking to upgrade my audio drives, just thought I'd check if anyone had any recommendations? I've an SSD as my internal drive which is great, but need 3 x 1TB for the audio drives so possibly not SSDs (too expensive).

I've been looking at WD VelociRaptors but apparently they're a bit noisy (great speed though at 10000rpm).

Any thoughts on what to go with/avoid??

Thanks!
Steve

I've been using a variety of LaCie drives. The only thing I've focused on is the 7200rpm as opposed to the 5400rpm. They've all worked great for me, although the Little Big Disk that I have is a bit noisy. Surprisingly, their "Rugged" series has been my favorite.

As I have posted this links in another thread already I thought I could do it here too .
Nothing fancy but proven and recommended-by-Avid-stuff.

Avid-recommended standard 3,5"
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firew...W800_FW400_USB
the portable 2,5" version of it
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firew...W800_FW400_USB

Another Avid recommendation

Widley used drives by the PT community

If one´s on a very tight budget these are fast and do work with Pro Tools actually
http://store.apple.com/us/product/H9...sb-30-7200-rpm
...only the 500GB, 7200rpm, FW800 will work...you may not choose the 1TB, 5400rpm, Thunderbolt
as the rotation speed of the disc will be too slow, it doesn´t help that it´s Thunderbolt-connected!!

Some people say these may have too less Cache but many others work with it successfully...
including myself as this is my 3rd (mobile) HD which I use daisy chained behind another one
and I run about 20-25 tracks in PT11 from it... it does a great job so far. Can´t complain actually.

However if one can afford it and is used actually to run sessions with a very high amount of tracks from his HDs,
he may take one of the other listed above for safety´s sake which come with higher amounts of Cache.

Best of success everybody,

VRW

Based on personal and professional experience...

Seaget and WD drives, USB 2 or 3 are the best.

GDrive: avoid them, had 2 dead within a month.

Lacie: for the money, not so good.

regards.
