restoring old files
Hi everyone.
Old sessions that I created at my former employer, now working on the project again. Old files were created on a Mac system, PT TDM, version 5.1 and above. These files have been on a variety of bad backup systems and headers are gone. The audio file format was sd2 (I know I know!). New system is PT 7.3 on a Mac, HD1. I searched the DUC, and by adding a .pts to the PT sessions I can get my ProTools 7.3 to import session data from the old sessions! A miracle, and a huge benefit. The problem is that ALL the audio files show up on my system as blank unknown files, due of course to the lacking header. I have sound hack, and can change the header there, but when opening a track in PT I can't get it to link to that new file - it won't even list it as a candidate if I only ask it to match the name and ignore length, format, etc. Is there a way to bulk-change the header info on all these hundreds of files so that when I import the session data it will link to and use the files? THANKS!!! I'm making great progress in the right direction thanks to the DUC, help me get all the way through! -adam-

Re: restoring old files
Update:
I took the time this morning to go through one by one in Sound Hack and change the header info for all the files for a single track. ProTools took a little convincing, but once I told it where to look, it happily re-linked to the correct files, and it plays and sounds right! So at this point I'm hoping someone can help me figure out how to automate Sound Hack or point me to a batch header-fixer program. I'm off to research Automator and email the sound Hack folks! Thanks in advance for any tips. -adam-
