Stop trying to install a broken OS on a perfectly good machine.

Continue on with your BS reasoning of why you think you should be able to run a crippled, forlorn OS on an already variable-dependent specialized system (PT).
rotfl, use your mac happily, i do aswell since 1995, but fortunately the apple shine hasn't hypnotized me yet.
this is the classic Apple fan answer.
they know for sure that mac is better even if you give them the proof that is not.

btw i've said all the things i wanted to say, i do not want to feed yet another mac vs pc discussion, this is not even the right place to do it.

Dude; I hear ya.

But you're trying hard to install an OS that's public beta (?) for PT - and doesn't work as well - on a machine that does.

Macs run all day every day. PC's don't.

Viruses, Mal-ware, Ad-ware, and you have to shut that off foe PT to run correctly?

You came to the Mac forum complaining that the shoddy OS that is Windose won't run. Not as well, or better - BUT DOESNT WORK.

and we're supposed to believe it's a better OS? Obviously.

Mac OS X is a better platform. If you don't believe it, right on. But I use both and I watch the PC fold - anybody's PC - everytime.

I work in front of clients. Maybe you don't. But I can't have Windoze crap out on me for no reason when the Mac doesn't (with plugs up to date it doesn't). Not after 20 hours. Not after 4 weeks of up time.

Get real, bro.

i have posted here just to be helpful for anyone that wants to use bootcamp over their new mac pros.

i do not want to use pt over bootcamp!!

i just wanted to say that if you want to install bootcamp on newest mac pros you have to remove pro tools card first.

that's all.

you're misunderstanding... bro

it's all relative osx is better for something win is better for something else, i cannot tweak osx cause i don't know unix, in the same way people gets viruses and problems in win cause they don't know how to use it.

regards

You're posting in a pro forum about using Windows 7, and the problems you're having with PT cards installed while trying to install Windows 7.

I'll venture that no one here cares. Not to be rude - please understand that I realize that most all of us use these MacPro's for things other than our PT rigs. But running windows is better done a PC. Or an iMac. Or a non-critical-cannot-go-down type of environment. I barely let Windows into the control room from clients, and will never use it professionally, ever. Been there, done that, had to reboot.

To be honest, I don't really use Windows at all anymore. Talk about un-intuitive. You have to click on the 'Start' button to shut it down. Crazy. That and with all the PT troubleshooting I do now to keep everything running, I don't have the brain resource power to keep M$ product support going at the same time.

Well what you CAN tweak on windows is nothing special that will give you more problems than solutions.

apple wants to do a user friendly OS but the time you want to do something that apple hasn't think of you are f____d.
Trust me, THEY know what is better. WAY better than you. YOU see a tool called "Pimp your processor" and wanna use it. Without paying thought to WHY
the processor-cap is there in the first time.

Quote:
I know very very little of unix language, so i have to learn unix to remove the dock? it's not what i call user friendly!!!
Do this (command + Alt + D) that will hide your dock and you wont have to look at it. There are plenty of tools for repositioning your dock.
You need to spend time with your OS - and you may proclaim that you have been using OS X since it came out but all your statements here proves beyond doubt that you have not at all understood how it works. To prove that I am right I did ONE search in google on how to stop the dock.... And in 10 seconds I found this : Remove The Dock.
You need to use your head before you cry wolf. You are probably one of those guys angry if he cant fly a Jumbo jet after reading thru' one page of a "How-to-fly-a-jumbo-jet" PDF Manual.
When you reach a CERTAIN level you need CERTAIN knowledge to deal with it... UNIX is great. Just because a laymen like yourself aint grasping it doesn't make it bad.

in os9 we had extensions, i want extension manager back!!!
Boy I believe your cheese just slid off your cracker...

Also i hate permissions, i want to disable all permissions on all disks, i don't want that feature, it only bust balls!!
Thanks for demonstrating your laymen ignorance. UNIX is from the 1960'ies. It is the most secure system available. It is based on PERMISSIONS.
Thats ONE of the reasons why there are so few viruses on Mac. Mac OS X UNIX.
Your statement is as absurd as "I dont like to look at the wings of an airplane, while flying, could you please take them off"

Like I said, you've gotta know what you're doing.

My idea was to use hackintosh at first.. but i was scared about pro-tools TDM cards and stability so i've bought this (overpriced) mac.
I've already installed succesfully hackintosh over this pc i'm writing on right now just for fun, it was perfect, and overclocked, maybe faster than the lowest mac pro available in the apple store, with about 500 euro hardware :P
I believe for you, based on your writings, that PC is the best for you. My standards could not differ more from yours.

Quote:
I don't say i'm not working fine with mac, i just say that it's less user friendly than windows, and most of third party applications are slower than on windows... that's the main problem basically.
Your cheese really slid of that cracker.

So here i am Unix, i will beat you!!!
You can do it.

so there is a way to remove the display refresh cap on osx ?
and to remove the dock? (or move it where i want).
and to disable hyperthread also? (without using "processor" utility)
and to check cpu frequency in real time ?
and maybe to activate turbo boost aswell ??
Try this fairly new invention called Google and get off your lazy a** instead of wasting our time with your negligence.

Dude, GET IT..... NO ONE besides you are Daft enough to wanna run ProTools HD on a Mac with Bootcamp and Windows.

Those wanna use Windows all reside in the Pro Tools|HD Systems on Windows.

Ohh... And they buy a PC.

Quit trolling and go preach to the quire.

And to those who wanna use boot camp with their PT System in the Mac. Installing and using Boot Camp is perfectly working.
This here fellow dont know what he is doing.

I had a client who wanted to use PT with Windows as he had other apps running only on Windows. You dont even need to install
boot camp. All you've gotta do is to have a free drive, insert a windows CD and hold alt while booting. Then you can set it up.
After installation you will need to insert your OS X DVD (On the booted windows) which will give you a few extras. Thats it.
Then Install PT and you're good to go. I did that and it worked fine.

Original Poster DOES NOT know what he is talking about.

# I think he installed OS X over OS 9 then tried to install bootcamp

To OP - one of the reasons why your system aint working is probably because you tweaked something which you had no knowledge of.

google about turbo boost on mac, you don't even know that it's not working, it looks like mac users doesn't cares about it

i have never searched for removing dock, i say it just to talk, like permissions, i was just giving examples, i've searched about a tool to benchmark and to see cpu frequency instead, with no luck, found a couple of utilities but it looks like frequency is static, is read only once.
the lack of utilities for mac is a reality.

searched about turbo boost on mac, found no info, those are thing that i really care, cause we're talking about performance.
But it looks mac users are too occupied working to think about it.

yes do they know also what i have to eat for launch?
processor cap is for safety, is because this machine had to work in siberia aswell than in the african desert, in a good enviroinment with a good temperature cpu can be tweaked because there are conditions where it can be pushed up with non risks.
Options, customizations, tweaks, why they decide for me?
The freedom to choose is the best feature.

i don't know what you mean for that, if it's offensive or not, but i loved os9 without network and other usuless stuff active that was performing much better, and i like my tweaked winxp mini partition i have on my laptop that uses only 60MB ram at boot that i use for livesets. rock solid and safe.

are you talking about me? what should i have tweaked if i can't tweak anything on a mac!!
reboot with alt, install any win system and get bsod, yes it's my fault, lol.

I talk about mac issues and limitations and you attack me, Apple Knights to defend the castle.
you still have to tell me wich application runs faster on macs...
i have installed bootcamp only for testing purpouses, to check if turbo booost was working at first, and it works obviously, not like osx.

Now you're contradicting yourself. In one post you said you did the Windoze install because you wanted to see if you could kick back and play games when not doing PT work. Just like I thought - a gamer. Porn - if you're a recordist/studio owner/user you've got better things to do with your hands.

You want to tweak OSX? Get a book or two on the subject - they're out there. Learn a something about the subject you're blathering about. Don't expect a quick fix like you'd get with anything out of Redmond. You say Windoze is easier to tweak - that's why they have all those security issues.

You come in here, a Mac OS-centric forum and complain about trying to run another OS? Should have posted this rant over in the PC forum. Or KVR or Gearslutz. You sound just like some of the people over in the Cakewalk Sonar forums whenever a Mac gets mentioned - got to defend the castle against the evil horde. Well, forgive us if we Mac users (some of us who also may use a pc for the right things) defend our little piece of turf.

i have abandoned the idea to use mac for gaming the second day i've got this machine, so my purpouse was only for testing, btw you're right i have better and more useful things to do than play games and writing into this thread that really brings to nothing, there's no way to have a constructive talk here.

is like going to an official soccer team forum and say that their coach sucks.

i come here because the issue is with pro tools card and mac pro, so i thougth that everyone here has pro-tools cards and a mac pro, there was no better place, and it was fine, until i've started saying bad things about osx....
again my intention was to be useful, but someone has started stating that win sucks and blablabla like always.....

Everybody stop feeding the Troll.

He'll go away soon enough. It's a sad typicality that we see, even now, with people and their 'but ... You can't overclock! ...and there are no 3rd party apps!...' which is actually all untrue. Everything the OP said about Max OS X was innacurate - and I'm sure if we busted into his thread over in Windows land talking smack about how thinly secured Win x is, and how rock-solid OS X was, he'd call us fanboys and tell us to take a piss.

Oh, wait, he already did that.

Mods, how about closing this one up, please?
