Default laptop virus, reinstall PT

Hey guys,

My laptop had a virus and i lost some data and now PT won't start up properly. It keeps stuck at loading 'midi'.
I'm thinking about reinstalling PT but i was wondering what about the Expansion Pack. Can i reinstall the Expansion Pack without a problem or will the program think it's another computer and will i need to rebuy the Expansion Pack?

thanks for your advice!

you will need to run the first part of the ERXP package if you re-install PT.

If you have already updated the firmware there is no need to ever run the firmware updater part again.

So after you re-install PT, run the ERXP and the first part will install the needed GUI files in your plug-in folder, then you can discard the Firmware updater placed on your desktop.

The first thing I would reinstall is the operating system after reformatting the system drive.

After a virus attack, there's virtually no point trying to use what's left over. When your system has been compromised, the best thing to do is start again fresh, and reinstall everything. Otherwise, damaged files and drivers are only going to give you problems.

definitely a good idea to do a complete re-install of the OS and all programs, unless you know how to recover everything seamlessly, or the virus is just scare ware and doesnt really effect anything and you can completely get rid of it using something like Malwarebytes.

I dont know why not. The ERXP should be in your Avid account.

As Benoni said, it should still be in your account. Mine is.

Totally agree!

Many respected members here constantly remind everyone to Backup their drive/s...this is why. If you have a clone, you're up & running again in no time.
