When I rec enable any of the channels assigned I get a digital full scale signal and no audio. Buggered 888 maybe?

edit: rebooted both interfaces again, 888 all in analogue mode with no s/pdif light, metering its own input fine, but FS white noise through the rec enable in PT.
What rev is your 888 interface? Oldest ones don't work I've heard...

Not necessarily. Check the label on the top of the device, it will state something like "888|24 Rev.Q" or whatever letter you have. Older devices (earlier letters) might even be 888|16 devices refurbished to 888|24 so no, you cannot assume that every 24-bit 888 would work.

Anyway, if you've done everything I told and do not succeed, I think it's best to call Avid about the issue (or continue Googling)

It's a rev.W, is that late enough to work?

Rev W is good. That's about as high as they got with 888 revisions. So it should be compatible & have 24bit conversion both in & out of the 888|24

I would re-trace all steps & then start looking at perhaps a faulty cable somewhere. Good luck! :)
