Previewing files from outside protools
Is there any way to preview audio files on Mac OSX without having to open a Pro Tools session?
We work using 48khz-24 bit files and I canīt "preview" them from outside Pro Tools environment (I tried using Itunes, but it didnīt allow me). Sorry if my question sounds silly or coming from a newbie, but I canīt figure it out. Thanks Sebastian |

Re: Previewing files from outside protools
If you want to preview a file without opening Pro Tools, SoundDog is a free app created by some folks that include Pro Tools users Jim Longo and Kevan Staples:
http://rdiv.com/apps/sounddog/ "SoundDog is a simple QuickTime-based applescript droplet that acts as a sound inspector. It is designed to be placed in your folder toolbar so that you can quickly drag and drop any audio file(s) onto SoundDog's icon to hear playback and view a detailed description of the file." Works great, I've had it since the first release. There are a few things that you should be aware of under Known Issues: "QuickTime 6 users don't get "Path" information in display SoundDog is limited by your QuickTime version. QT6 users can only playback and inspect audio files up to 48khz, while QT7 users can work with 192khz, 32bit multichannel audio. apparent hang can be caused by "Get QuickTime Pro" dialog behind finder windows. Make QuickTime active and dismiss dialog. SoundDog doesn't understand split-stereo files . . . sorry ProTools users." Re: Previewing files from outside protools
You can preview directly from the finder in OS X, just make sure you're in column view. I use it all the time, I just previewed a 24 bit 96k file that way.
