Default S6 Dual Operator at Technicolor Toronto

Hey Guys,

I've posted my first of two parts blog on S6 at Technicolor in Toronto:

http://www.avidblogs.com/pro-mixing-...color-toronto/

It's a really cool place and the first interview focuses on the mixers perspective (with lots of great photos - including the center section and add on gear). Frank has won two Emmys for "LOST" and "The Kennedys" and is an ICON veteran (which he compares and contrasts the S6 too). He's been using the S6 for several months now on the new hit TV show "The Strain" on FX.

Hope you enjoy it…

Thanks,
Tom

Some things to note as you look at the images as well:

1. He's on a 9 knob and can easily reach to the top knob (as shown in the first photo) - a happy accident to show that.
2. I really like how they have the Pro Tools edit monitors off to each side and in portrait mode to show more tracks vertically.
3. The recorder Pro Tools HDX rig has a screen behind the center section for metering.
4. You can see they have the Neyrinck V-Mon and two of the Colin Broad PD-1's for Pec Direct switching. Colin is working on a version that we will have at IBC that fits into the surface as a module.
5. For those curious, they have Genelec's as their near-field monitors.

Hi Manny!

Let me clarify 'add module'… Basically he's building a housing for his already existing box. It happens to fit the form factor very well…

Thanks,
T

Thanks - it is a lot of work but fun to do as well… Thanks for your blog as well.
If you come across a great story of an S6 or S5 room with HDX (or even a cool mobile/pro mixing workflow story) for the blog, let me know!

Best,
Tom

Tom...

First, thank you for the pictures of Technicolor...totally sharp setup.

Second, I'm sure you know there are folks here who will see a misplaced comma in an Avid email and decide it means that Avid will be releasing some major new product in the next 24 hours.

You said, "... story of an S6 or S5 room ..." You are referring to either the "System 5" or the "S5 Fusion", not some new control surface, right?

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

Hi Yes…
Pardon the slang! They have a System 5 room as well that I will be discussing the next blog post.

Hi Guys,

The video and second blog post is now up for you to see:

http://www.avidblogs.com/pro-mixing-...id-everywhere/

It's interesting to hear from the technical engineer and study/sales manager.

Thanks,
Tom
