Operating system

Hello, I have a Toshiba core duo laptop, running windows xp media center. Is converting to xp home or pro as simple as buying the software and loading the new operating system? I'm trying to configure my system to be supported by Digidesign, and this appears to be the only non-support issue the computer has.

Also, is there a difference between home and pro as it relates to running pro tools? Thanks
