Where abouts do you choose "standard mode" (disabling ACPI) when you install Windows XP Pro?

Thanks

I do appreciate all your guys help, I hope I don't come across as utterly stupid for having bought the wrong PC.

I just treated it like buying a new printer or anything else, "Windows XP compatible, let's buy it". I don't like spending countless hours pulling out HDDs (which I can't do without anyway) or buying extra firewire cards (just looked, they're over NZ$100). I wonder if digidesign can refund my purchase price + shipping costs (no didn't think so) or send me a dalwdm.sys file that works on my (what I thought was) very normal and current PC?

Maybe there's something in amongst that "d:\drivers\dalwdm.inf" that could be changed to suit my needs? As far as I can tell, the dalwdm.sys file feeds off of the dalwdm.inf file, and when you open the .inf file it gives you all this interesting stuff:

Default Re: P4 3.4Ghz compatibility problems!

you can setup standard PC by updating the ACPI driver listing in Device Manager after you install XP. I very much doubt this is the culprit though..

I still think it's your drive config that hangs the driver install. Please, take my advice and strip the system down to a single IDE drive, reinstall everything and give it another shot.

If that doesn't work then maybe Allen is right and the only workaround is to buy a Mac Mini..

best of luck,
~turbo

I have a feeling he's wasting his time. Exchange the motherboard with a known compatible board.

Ahwell, f**k it

I'm trying with just one IDE, one very last try and at least I don't have to reinstall windows again coz I'm not touching the SATAs this way.

At the end of the day I can adapt a bit of desk space and use my laptop as a pro tools machine, it's not too shabby... centrino 1.5 with 1gb RAM. Also means I can transport it around easier which I fully intend to do.

Do you think my motherboard will EVER be able to use pro tools hardware drivers? What sort of timeframe do you think it will be?

Regards
Pete
