i just wish the inserts would copy to the new track. I don't want to commit to my eq and comp settings when I freeze. My temples are full of possible inserts, but it seems commit will either remove them or write them to the file.. Close but not everything I wanted. It should still speed up everything but I'l still have to drag and active my inserts one at a time.

Hopefully I'm wrong about this.

These really are two different features. While depending on workflow choices there may well be overlap for some users, there really are some very substantial differences.

These are good times for Pro Tools.

Drag And Drop MIDI Commit

You can now convert MIDI to audio simply by dragging and dropping the MIDI from a VI track to a new audio track - it's very cool. It really is as simple as grabbing the MIDI data and dragging it to the audio track below and bam!"

That won't be a time saver or anything like that! That'll be the first thing I try out!

Watched the "What's New" video and still wondering about Aux behavior with commit. Starting at 07:18, they go over using commit for mix delivery.

The idea is to render all processing for delivery, but in that section of the video the rendered tracks retain their send settings. Which means it is still using whatever plug-ins on the aux tracks that are used for send effects. Which doesn't achieve the goal of delivering a multitrack, because the reverb/delay/whatever isn't rendered.

You're covered. You can commit up to a chosen send, and chose to have the rest copied to the new committed track.

The Devs have really thought this through.

Anything involving outboard hardware must be in real time.

Hi,

You can have it copy inserts and sends. You can commit up to any specific insert you'd like and keep everything else virtual. This is why Pro Tools Commit and Track Freeze will be beyond other DAWs in flexibility.

If you get a chance - watch the 12 minute video:

Thanks,
Tom

I wonder how that would be handled if you do attempt to commit a track with hardware inserts... Hopefully there's a pop-up saying that hardware inserts are not supported, then it would commit only "up to" the first hardware insert.
