Default Surround Panner Option with Command 8

Has anyone tried using the new Surround Panner Option (JL Cooper) with the Command 8 MIDI I/O?
Everything seems to be setup properly, but I can't get the panner to funtion. An actual Pro Tools error screen comes up and says that these two products are not compatible? No one at Digidesign seems to know anything about this. Strangely if you select PORT 2 in the Midi setup, only PORT 3 is available in the MIDI Controllers page. Anyone?
