Default Help with Behringer ADA8000 for more inputs

I'm thinking about purchasing the Behringer ADA8000to expand my 001's inputs up to 16. My computer right now has no problem recording 8 tracks at a time. My question is: how much of an impact will the 8 additional tracks put on my processor? Is there a chance that my computer won't be able to handle that extra work? Thanks!

Hard to answer that question with any certainty without knowing exactly what your computer setup is. Generally, you shouldn't have any problem.

you can do a test - using the same principle as the davec test - get the 'show system performance' window open - set up 16 tracks and drop them in to record (the fact that you are recording silence is of little relevance) then let them run for what you think would be the duration of a normal song - if your CPU meter is OK it's all OK

cheers, scott

If you want to test this with sound, make all 16 tracks set to mic line 1, and while recording talk into your sm57. let it go for a few minutes then stop it and see if you can play back. btw the ada8000 is a very good piece of equipment for the price.

considering a 250mHz beige G3 can cop the full 64 tracks on an internal IDE drive (using TDM of course), i reckon you'll be right.

Should be exactly the same as this. I use it with a g4 powerbook(1.5 ghz, 512 ram) and a 002, and I've recorded several concerts using all 16 channels and it's been nothing but great.

when you plug the ada 8000 in, it will show levels and you will be able to record with it. however you will get a popping sound do to the 002 not knowing which clock to use. when you open protools, and the ada 8000 is turned on, you will have to go to the hardware setup tab in the tool bar and set the clock choice from internal to adat. This will set the ada 8000 as the master and the 002 as the slave
