Thanks guys. I am pretty sure I won't fail the edu process as I go to a major university. Also just to reiterate I have until 6 months after I graduate to purchase the student version-but I must open an ilok account before I graduate?

Not necessarily before you graduate but definitely before you start the whole process of buying and registering your PT license.
Should be the first thing still before you go to buy it.
It´s important that you have an iLok account and an iLok ID that your license will not get "lost in space" when sent away from Avid then.
Because you would not get it back/replaced actually.

Yes, the end date for which you are eligible to purchase a Pro Tools student licence is six months after your course ends.

As I wait for it to arrive..Does anyone here have my exact model? Mid 2012 retina MacBook Pro 2.3 i7, 8gb ram, 256gb flash, 1gb Nvidia graphics card? Just wondering what kind of performance I should expect whenever I finally get pt 11(should be MUCH better than my old i3 laptop with integrated graphics and pt 8). I know everyone says get more ram than you need but but honestly even though I make beats sometimes, I don't use more than 40 tracks (usually around 20-30 including auxes) and usually print VI's as soon as I'm good with the take(so I don't leave midi tracks in my sessions) Thoughts?

The main hd is 256gb of flash memory, so it's faster than an ssd!

Not the same MBP but a Mini with the exact model of i7 Quad processor (I7-3615QM)
and a 256GB Samsung 850 for the OS drive.
http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...lay-specs.html
http://www.everymac.com/systems/appl...012-specs.html
Also I once had an i3 3,06GHz iMac with PT7-9 and a Digi003R, for a short time a Mini 2,3GHz i5 with PT10-11.

So as to the 2.3GHz i7 although there may be more powerful machines now of course it however "flies" with PT11
and does get rarely over 50% CPU here even with 50-60 tracks and tons of plug ins (Waves, MCDSP, etc.).

But it´s not the sheer speed or tightness which will make the huge difference
(if you had a well configured, well working LE8-system that already did a good job probably),
the real difference in the performance between LE8+i3 and 2,3GHz i7+PT11 will be, that you now will use a much
more complex program with much more power and options, working in 64bit instead of only 32bit and your computer
still will be not on the edge but working smoothly and effortless actually.
Additionally it will provide you a higher audio quality than the LE8-system.

If however you could get a Thunderbolt or USB 3/SSD for the audio drive, this would be definitely a huge step up too.
I still use 3 Firewire 800/7200rpm drives and have to say that these are the only "slow" part of the system
(can´t afford the fast stuff at the moment unfortunately).
What also does make sense to use is the 256GB Flash/SSD for the OS drive, it improves the overall performance at lot.

Everything else is working flawlessly and easily with the 2,3GHz i7 Quad.

The crucial thing with these MacBooks is, you can´t change/replace any Ram anymore.
You have to live with it or replace the whole MBP.
Anyway although 16GB would be better because it just helps the Mac to work more effortless,
8GB should be right ok.
As you are saying you are not working with an "armada" of VIs, so it should become
no problem actually.

Have lots of fun with the new stuff,

I was using a 250gb 7200 rpm usb2 drive, planning on reformatting that for the time being and whenever possible (funds are shot after this purchase haha) upgrading like you said.
