Default A PERFEXT Example Of Why Avid...

Inject your own adjective.

DON'T keep up a maintenance plan and then get offered a two year for the price of one completely hosing those of us who are loyal and hang with them thru thick and thin.

Seems this will always happen with subscription models, we just aren't used to it yet. Even the most "fair" of subscription plans is subject to this. Its (obviously) the company's effort to sell new plans.

For example, I bought a year-long subscription to Slate Digital plugins when it was first offered. Halfway thru the year or so, they lowered their annual fee for their subscription service. Did existing subscription holders get grandfathered in to the new rate, or pro-rated? No. We were told "You can sign up for the lower yearly fee once your existing plan expires." Did I feel a little "slated" (lol), yes, but hey, it seems this is the norm now...

If you keep your sub going at $99, wouldn't you still be getting the better deal? 3 years of updates for $297 vs. having to re-up and only getting 2 years of updates for $299.

True. But there is a LOT of value in simply not paying any sub and then re-upping (if and) when the features warrant it.

So it works both ways: Avid isn't incentivized to improve when they have revenue rain or shine, but the longer customers wait to re-up, the more value re-upping has.

I'm in no rush now that my sub dropped, as every year I wait, that fee becomes more like a reasonable version upgrade in the traditional model.

Good things come to those who wait.
