Default The current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 48 kHz.

My Digi003 recently died, just in time for PT9. I bought the upgrade and purchased a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56. I did all the installations as instructed. However, I keep getting the following message: The current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 48 kHz.

That's correct...lowest buffer on a 3rd party interface is 64.

He's talking sample rates, not buffer size.
I get this error every now and then. Sometimes because something else (ie Youtube) is using the interface before I open PT, and other times I have to power cycle my interface and PT to get it to show up right. Unsure why this is though.

This seems to be a problem when you use your interface to play back your Mac audio. PT and your Mac are trying to access the same interface and usually the Mac wins. Try switching your Mac to Internal Speakers in the system prefs and start up PT9 afterwards.

I find that if I use my interface to play back the computer audio that PT seems quieter. Then I realized that the computer was controlling the volume of the interface. Raising the computer volume fixes this, but it's a better practice to set the computer audio to internal speakers before starting PT.

Thank you cshaw, I didn't even think to check the Mac audio! I just downloaded PT9 and have a bed session tomorrow morning so I rented a Presonus Firestudio which I couldn't get to open sessions until now.

Could this playback engine not supporting sample rates have anything to do with the Main Outputs being set to something other than 1-2?

i've had this problem intermittently with pt 10 and 11 on a mac pro. just solved it for me. in the pro tools menu>setup>playback engine: it was set to airplay, switched it to apollo, which is my interface, all good now. i was using airplay to stream audio to other parts of my home/studio, and somehow the playback engine got switched to airplay.

hope that helps.

THANK YOU. Just had weird issue installing 11 on new machine that had 10.3.4 on it and this popped up.

SETUP > PLAYBACK ENGINE > changing playback engine to "Built-In Output" changed it all on both platforms.

Cheers!
