There is not a specific case where this will happen, it is a hardware issue that needs to be replaced. If you have an S1 that encounters sporadic Encoder 4 behavior, contact Avid Support so we can help determine the root cause.

Ah, my misunderstanding - so it's just bad luck that Bob got *two* bad S1s? Ok, good to know it's not a software bug.

Perhaps the S1s I bought from Sweetwater were probably very old stock. It would be nice to learn more. At any rate, Avid is being kind to exchange them with new ones!

I've been having this same issue for awhile (from a unit I bought from Sweetwater last April, I wonder if it was from that same batch of old stock). I opened a support case about 2 weeks ago but have yet to hear any response (case 04135886). Mark, can you help me out with this? Thanks!

I also received two consecutive faulty units. Avid were quick to supply a replacement and the new unit works just fine.
